Plus, GPB Radio’s award-winning Georgia Gazette has now expanded to weekends with a new program, Weekend Gazette. Also, GPB’s popular locally-produced GPB On Stage moves to 8 PM Saturday nights, immediately following A Prairie Home Companion.

“Our audience doesn’t stand still, and neither does GPB Radio,” according to GPB Radio Program Manager Rob Maynard. “The new programming we’re bringing to Georgians is an even mix of the compelling information and innovative music performances that public radio does best. I’m proudest of the fact that most of these new programs are created right here in Georgia, which nicely balances our lineup of nationally-syndicated programs.”

Listeners can wake up, get out of bed and traverse the world Saturdays at 6 AM during Travel with Rick Steves, a fun show that teaches listeners how to explore the world smartly, smoothly and thoughtfully. Host Rick Steves welcomes guest experts to the studio and takes listener calls.

GPB’s award-winning program, Georgia Gazette has expanded to become part of the GPB Radio Weekend lineup. Weekend Gazette, hosted by Valarie Edwards, will examine the week’s important topics and provide interviews from people across the state. Tune into Weekend Gazette Saturdays at 12 PM and listen to the rebroadcast Sundays at 4 PM.

GPB Radio is giving listeners interested in sustainability and green initiatives in their homes and communities a place to go with Sustainable Georgia. This GPB-produced weekly program will feature interviews with notable Georgians involved in the movement toward sustainability. In addition, the program will feature information from around the state, a weekly Georgia Earth Newscast, the Isla Earth feature and even “recycled music” – songs with an environmental message. Tune into Sustainable Georgia at 12:30 PM Saturdays and the rebroadcast at 4:30 PM Sundays and 11:30 PM Tuesdays. In addition, you can email the show at gogreen@gpb.org and listen on demand or post to the blog at www.gpb.org/gogreen.

GPB Radio’s local performance series, GPB on Stage moves to Saturdays at 8 PM, immediately following A Prairie Home Companion. GPB On Stage features many notable series and performances. September will feature Eddie’s Attic Presents, Evening Star from Sautee Nacoochee, and The Mountain Music and Medicine Show from Dahlonega’s Historic Holly Theater. Additionally, upcoming performances include noted musician and Twiggs County resident Chuck Leavell and A Prairie Home Companion regular Fred Newman.

Ab's Place, hosted by Abdul Taymullah, is a new straight ahead jazz show with emphasis on the emerging artists whose musical expression is influenced by the music of such mid-period greats as Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Dexter Gordon. Ab's Place will also have artist profiles and artist features as the show takes shape. The program will air on GPB Radio overnight Saturdays and Sundays, Midnight to 6 AM.

To keep up with its audience’s increasing interest in quality, in-depth news and information, GPB Radio will add The News Hour Mondays - Thursday at 8 PM immediately following News and Notes with Farai Chideya beginning Monday, September 8. GPB Radio Program Manager Rob Maynard sees the program as an important addition. “Our listeners are actively engaged in their communities and with the world,” says Maynard, “We’ve always been proud to be associated with The News Hour on GPB Television and this radio re-broadcast is a natural extension of that relationship.”

The Savannah Music Festival has become Georgia’s largest musical arts festival, featuring world-class musicians and international audiences. Starting Monday, September 8, GPB Radio will host Savannah Music Festival Live Mondays at 9 PM. The series will be hosted by Rob Gibson and feature live performances by artists such as the Emerson String Quartet, Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at the Lincoln Center Orchestra and special programs showcasing Georgia natives such as Johnny Mercer and Wycliffe Gordon.
